Art and Entertainment Then and Now
Both Art and entertainment have changed in various forms. The boundaries of both these too have widened in the present as a result of technology.
Take for example music. First it was created by someone physically playing an instrument. Later it could be recorded and played on cassette tapes or CDs. Now there are portable music players where one can listen to thousands of songs. People no longer need to go to a music store in order to buy a music CD. Using Mp3 technology, music is gathered and distributed digitally. Songs can be purchased from online stores.
Paperbacks and hardcovers used to be the only way of reading. Now there are e-books and there are devices such as the Kindle which gives the reader access to more than 150,000 books. When you watch TV, it involves rewinding, pausing, fast forwarding, TiVo allows you to record the program if you are not at home, and view it later. You can also watch TV programs of different channels using the internet and your phone.
Movies too have changed through time. First the promotions were through magazines, posters as well as newspaper advertisements and articles. Now there are trailers which are shown on TV. On the internet too one can find official websites which inform details of production, the photographs and biographies of stars as well as sound clips of the movie. There are also websites dedicated to movie promotion which allow the visitors access to gallery photos, computer wall papers, teaser trailers, behind the scenes clips and so much more.
Technology has allowed the entertainment and art creators to market themselves more efficiently as well as effectively using online advertising as well as blog presence and even social media exchanges. The budgets have been able to be reduced significantly as well as the revenues have been able to increase.
One is able to get a first impression of an artist immediately without having the artist to wait for press kits. One is also able to buy tickets online and that too at the last moment, so planning of event attendance far in advance is not necessary.
Now social media marketing has increased the word of mouth advertising and marketing and also, the artists and entertainers are able to get first hand and immediate feedback from the recipients.
Technology and advances in science have introduced more audiences to art and thus their impact is extended to more than just one time events.
